Integrated protection against viruses and spam for companies of any size
Integrated protection against viruses and spam for companies of any size.
Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces the release of a new, fully integrated software solution, Kaspersky Mail Gateway 5.5 for Linux and FreeBSD. For the first time, Kaspersky Lab provides a single solution that combines antivirus processing of mail traffic and filters unsolicited emails.
The spam filtering mechanism incorporated into Kaspersky Mail Gateway 5.5 is based on the cutting-edge technology SpamTest™. The application scans mail traffic for spam using a method which involves comparing each message to samples of unsolicited messages in Kaspersky Lab’s anti-spam database. More importantly, spam can be detected even when messages have been modified in order to fool spam filters. In addition to analyzing signatures, Kaspersky Mail Gateway 5.5 analyzes the contents of each message and its attachments using intelligent technologies. It is particularly noteworthy that the solution also uses a unique methodology to detect spam by analyzing images using special graphic signatures.
To enhance the solution’s performance, Kaspersky Mail Gateway 5.5 incorporates a system that manages the application’s queue. The administrator can view the queue, delete messages from the queue, as well as scan and send a particular message ahead of the queue. The queue’s size can be limited, which helps to avoid overloading the file system should it run out of free space. Kaspersky Mail Gateway 5.5 reliably protects the customer’s network against hacker attacks (e.g., DoS attacks) by allowing administrators to define the parameters for communication with other network elements, including limiting the number of connections processed at the same time.
Kaspersky Mail Gateway 5.5 can be installed on a separate server or on a single computer with an existing mail server. The product can significantly improve a company’s level of protection against various threats by combining different antivirus solutions into one system. In particular, a built-in mail transfer agent makes the product easy to install and configure, even for system administrators with little experience of working with Linux or FreeBSD systems or complicated mail sever settings.
In addition to scanning mail traffic for viruses and filtering unwanted mail, Kaspersky Mail Gateway 5.5 has a broad range of auxiliary functions that provide great practical value. For example, the flexible system of configuration enables the administrator to change the application’s operating parameters depending upon the amount of mail traffic and the security policies in place – from the highest possible performance to maximum protection for users. The antivirus database can be updated either at the system administrator’s request or automatically on schedule from Kaspersky Lab’s Internet servers or from local servers defined by the administrator. Antivirus and linguistic analytical modules are updated together with the antivirus databases, keeping the antivirus engine up-to-date. Finally, the graphical reports generated by the application can be viewed using the solution’s web interface, making detailed monitoring of virus activity possible.
