Barclays Chooses Kaspersky Lab To Offer Complete Online Security Software To All Its Online Banking Customers – Free Of Charge

15 July 2008

Kaspersky Lab today announced that Barclays has become the first UK bank to offer all its two million online banking customers free internet security software

Kaspersky Lab, a leading provider of security solutions that protect against viruses, Trojans, worms, spyware, crimeware, rootkits, phishing, hacker attacks and spam, today announced that Barclays has become the first UK bank to offer all its two million online banking customers free internet security software. The Kaspersky Internet Security all-in-one security solution will provide Barclays customers PC’s and laptops with protection against Internet fraud and online identity theft, as well as providing personal data protection.

Barclays is making this service available to all of its online banking registered customers (those who have a Barclays online banking ID) worldwide. The award-winning Kaspersky Internet Security from Kaspersky Lab normally retails for £49.99 for an annual subscription, but Barclays will offer it completely free of charge with customers able to download it from its online banking website.

This follows on from Barclays becoming the first UK bank to roll out its two factor authentication system, PINsentry, in 2007 which protects customers against phishing attacks and fraudsters getting hold of customer security information. Over 1 million PINsentry readers have already been sent out to customers.

“We are delighted to have been selected by Barclays to provide complete protection to its online banking customers, says Simon Geach, Sales Director with Kaspersky Lab UK. He continues, “Kaspersky Lab provides hourly updates, consistently excellent detection rates and free telephone technical support, and is today the fastest growing security software vendor. Furthermore, Kaspersky Lab is the UK home user community’s 2nd most popular choice for Internet security. We look forward to building a strong, and most importantly, secure relationship with Barclays and its customers.”

Sean Gilchrist, Director of Digital Banking for Barclays, said: “For the last two years we have offered customers free anti-virus software, but as Internet fraudsters become more sophisticated it is important that customers protect their computers from all threats and not just viruses. Kaspersky Lab has one of the best reputations in the business and together with PINsentry we believe Barclays online customers will have one of the best security packages of all online banks.”

Barclays has signed a two-year agreement with Kaspersky Lab to provide Kaspersky Internet Security that will be worth approx £100 to its customers. Barclays will also allow customers to download the software on up to three personal computers for each licence so that customers can protect all the computers in the same household.

Barclays customers that are not banking online can register by going to Barclays.co.uk. Non-Barclays customers can gain access to the free software by opening a Barclays current account in branch or online.
