Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content management solutions, announces that Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 has received top marks from the authoritative antivirus test lab Matousec Transparent Security.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 demonstrated impressive technological supremacy in a series of tests conducted throughout 2008 by the respected independent lab Matousec Transparent Security, receiving the maximum 10+ result, with an excellent overall score (87% in 73 tests) for an internet security solution.

The tests conducted by Matousec Transparent Security are some of the most technologically complex in the industry, designed to cover a wider range of aspects than the tests performed by AV-Test and AV-Comparatives. The products participating in the tests have to pass 10 successive levels of checks. To proceed from one level to another a product has to achieve a score of at least 50%. The maximum possible score is 10+, which affirms that a product successfully passed all 10 levels. 37 different internet security and personal firewall solutions took part in the testing.

Significantly, the other four solutions that also achieved a result of 10+ were firewall products that provide no antivirus protection. Thus, Matousec Transparent Security testing confirmed KIS 2009’s unique status as a solution that successfully incorporates antivirus technologies as well as embodying the concepts of internet security in full. Products from other antivirus vendors such as Trend Micro, McAfee, Symantec and ESET failed a number of the tests.

Matousec Transparent Security used more than 70 tests including the General bypassing test, which determines the ability of an antivirus solution to resist the most sophisticated methods of injecting and masking malicious code. The Leak-test defines the ability of the product to successfully protect “the last line of defense”, i.e., to prevent the client’s personal data from being stolen if the other protection methods (proactive, heuristic, signature or behavior) are ineffective. Other tests used are the Performance test, which measures the network throughput, and the Spying test, which is one of the most important tests for evaluating how reliable an antivirus solution is. The Matousec lab also includes the Termination test to demonstrate how well antivirus solutions can protect themselves against attempts to terminate their operations and to damage their processes and files.
