Kaspersky Lab, a leading developer of secure content and threat management solutions, today announced that the Kaspersky One Transantarctic Expedition will commence on 12 November, which will see famous polar explorer Felicity Aston making a 70-day, 1700km journey across the Transantarctic Mountains, along a route never skied before to the South Pole.

The Kaspersky One Transantarctic Expedition is a landmark solo expedition and a world first. British explorer Felicity Aston, aged 33, will embark on her long ski journey to become the first woman in history to cross the Antarctic alone. By completing the journey, Felicity will also hold the world record for the longest solo journey made by a woman in the polar regions. However, this journey is more than about just records. The expedition aims to instill a spirit of adventure, courage and inspiration, as well as to understand more about what motivates individuals to achieve.

Commenting on the forthcoming expedition, Roger Wilson, Vice-President of Marketing at Kaspersky Lab, said: “We are happy to continue our partnership with Felicity Aston and support her courageous solo expedition to the South Pole. Sponsorship of the previous project, the Kaspersky Lab Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition, proved to be very successful, inspiring both our employees and customers. This time the expedition is even more challenging, and we sincerely wish Felicity success on her record-setting journey.”

The collaboration between Felicity Aston and Kaspersky Lab began back in November 2009, when Kaspersky Lab sponsored the Commonwealth Antarctic Expedition. The expedition, lead by Felicity, brought together women from the Commonwealth countries of Brunei, Cyprus, Ghana, India, Jamaica, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Kingdom. The fabulous team of seven women skied more than 900km from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole, exposed to temperatures as low as -40œС. Representing five continents, six faiths and seven languages, the expedition marked the 60th anniversary of the Commonwealth and was intended to attract public attention to the problems of the worsening of the Antarctic environment. After this project Felicity Aston became a constant guest at Kaspersky Lab’s events and conferences and came to be treated as a member of the team. That’s why Kaspersky Lab is happy to sponsor Felicity’s new project: on the courageous Kaspersky One Transantarctic Expedition.
